First impressions make a difference –   Creating an inviting entrance is an absolute must! Adding a fresh coat of paint to the front door and changing old, dated house numbers is an easy and inexpensive way update a home’s entrance. The ladies over at Jilly and Mia , Girls With Good Taste, (go check them out!) give an awesome step by step tutorial.

  1. Don’t forget to make sure the house number is easily seen on the mailbox as well. Make finding the home as easy as possible for potential buyers and their agents is a great way to start a showing off in the right direction.  Take some extra time to make sure the entryway is decluttered. Example: No shoes, keys, coats, mail ext laying out for all to see.

2.   Outlets – A lot of people don’t think about the outlets or light switches in their home, but these very important power sources decorate everyone’s walls and are used, maybe more, than anything in the house; making it very easy for them to get cracked and dirty. Old beige/tan or colored light switches and outlets make a home look dated and the difference adding clean, crisp, white outlets and switches makes is shocking. The best part being, it doesn’t take an electrician to change these out. Just take a day of a weekend and get to it.this seems like a daunting task, the the folks at Young House Love make this super easy. They even have this nifty before and after with steps! YHL-How-To-Change-Your-Outlets

We may not notice it but a buyer will and after all, we as humans remember smells and scents more strongly than any of our other 4 sences. To ensure a buyer leaves with a good memory of what could become their future home, use these quick tips to freshen up.

    1. Baking soda- Baking soda is the key to eliminating all natural odors, and with an industrial size box costing about $3, this is a no brainer. Sprinkle the baking soda on any carpet, pet areas, and even upholstery in your home. Let it sit for a few hours and vacuum it up. You’re done!
    2. Take some essential oils or extracts from the kitchen; vanilla, peppermint ext. and put them to good use in the bathroom. Putting a drop inside of the toilet paper roll is an easy way to freshen up the lou.

Chic On a Shoestring Decorating breaks down how to change these out to make sure they look the best! Look for streamline, simple handles and pulls that match your existing decor, simply unscrew the old and screw in the new.

 5.   Declutter!- Last but absolutely not least, Declutter the space, and that does NOT mean throw everything in closets. Buyers will usually look inside closets to ensure there is ample space for their things. Having a closet packed to the ceiling doesn’t allow buyers to see and appreciate the amount of closet space the home has to offer.

    1. Throw away what can be thrown away and organize what can be organized.
    2. Everyone has nicknacks and do dads strone around their house; things that can’t necessarily be thrown away, but that don’t need to be out in plain sight. For example: kids toys, family photos, nick nacks on bedside tables, papers around computers. ext. A simple fix is to get Large rubbermaid or tupperware storage boxes. Put all your clutter in those, and label them.
